How to Make a Corporate Apartment Feel More Like Home

Moving temporarily can be a super exciting event, but it can also be tough to adjust to life in a new place. Since corporate housing is usually furnished apartments for rent and corporate housing services are pretty accommodating, it’s not going to be an uncomfortable stay necessarily, but there are things you can do to make the place feel a little bit more like home. Here are a few quick and easy tips for doing it.

1. Pack Special Items
When you’re preparing to leave for your new place, look around your home and collect a few special items to bring with you. Collect a couple of pictures of family and friends — especially if you’re going to be gone for awhile (the average stay in corporate housing in 2012 was 88 days) and in an area where you won’t be able to get back to see them often. Grab a couple of your favorite books or bits of decor to place around the new apartment. The little details like these will count.

2. Get a House Plant
The worst thing about staying in a new place is that it can get a little lonely. Getting a plant not only freshens up a room, but it can also make things feel a little less dreary. It’s just good to have something alive in the house. You don’t have to go all out and get a small tree — try a small flowering plant or even start an herb garden in the kitchen instead.

3. Bring a Familiar Scent
This is something that a lot of people don’t think of, but a familiar scent is going to be pretty powerful when it comes to making you feel at home. Bring an air freshener that you use at home or make sure to keep buying the same brands of laundry detergent and soaps. Corporate housing services generally don’t offer personal care items like that anyway, so make sure to pack the soaps you like. These will all help you transition more easily into your new space and remind you of home.
